Former Suffolk Baseball Player Serving in US Army

Former Suffolk University Baseball player Pat Murphy (Pembroke, MA/Suffolk '04) is set to deploy for Mosul, Iraq on Wednesday. Murphy who is a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, is a member of Delta Company 1-30 IN battalion 2nd BCT, 3rd Infantry Division. Murphy, a tank platoon leader will be in charge of sixteen US soldiers, overseeing five M1A1 tankers.

Murphy played baseball at Suffolk from 2002-2004, hitting .354 in 117 games for the Rams in a three year span. In 390 career at-bats, Murphy had 138 hits, including 22 doubles to go along with 78 runs batted in and 80 runs scored. Murphy played both second and third base for Suffolk. Murphy also appeared in an NCAA Regional Tournament with Suffolk in 2002 in Harwich, MA. Murphy graduated from Suffolk in 2004 as a Criminal Justice major.

Head Baseball Coach Cary McConnell commended Pat for his leadership skills during his time with Suffolk. "Pat was an outstanding player in his years here at Suffolk, but where he really excelled was in his leadership abilities and commitment. He had the exceptional skill of reaching out to his teammates and getting them to reach their utmost potential. We are all proud of Pat for his bravery and courage in serving our country and wish him the best during his service time."
