Three student-athletes from Suffolk University spring sports earned weekly recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the week of March 26.
Junior Alex Torres (Framingham, Mass.) was named GNAC Pitcher of the Week. Torres retired the first 19 hitters he faced as the junior right hander pitched a complete game one hitter in baseball’s 2-0 victory over Johnson & Wales on Saturday. Torres was dominant needing only 88 pitches to defeat the Wildcats. Torres fired first pitch strikes to 19 of the 23 batters he faced and only went to one three-ball count on the afternoon.
Senior Marc Doyle (Whitman, Mass.) was named to the GNAC’s Weekly Honor Roll for Baseball. Doyle was impressive with both his bat and on the mound as the senior hurler went 6 2/3 innings in Thursday’s 5-3 victory over Bridgewater State. Doyle was 7-for-20 at the plate and now has an 11-game hitting streak going.
Junior Clara Conklin (Haverhill, N.H.) was also selected to the GNAC Weekly Honor for Softball. Conklin had a monster week going 7-for-17 at the plate with six extra base hits. Conklin had a career day against Lasell College going 5-for-5 with five RBI, including two home runs and two doubles, while scoring three times.
