Cary McConnell enters his 15th season as Head Coach of the Suffolk University Baseball team. McConnell enters the 2010 season with 415 career victories. In 2009, McConnell guided the Rams to their fourth NCAA Regional appearance in the decade, including amassing thirty wins in a season for the third time in the program's 62-year history. On April 8th of last season McConnell earned his 400th career collegiate coaching victory.
McConnell was hired in February of 1996 and since then has directed his program into one of the premier Division III college programs in the region. As skipper of the Rams, McConnell has guided his teams to a 329-183 record (.642 winning %), five GNAC regular-season 1st place finishes, four NCAA Regional appearances, four GNAC Tournament Championships, one ECAC Tournament Championship, five ECAC Tournament bids, a national ranking of 18th, and the school record in wins with 38 in a season. He was named GNAC Coach of the Year in the 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008 seasons.
Coach McConnell began his coaching career in 1990 as an assistant
at The College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio) working with pitchers and
catchers. In 1990, the Scots set a conference record in
earned-run-average with 3.47 on the way to an NCAA Regional
appearance. He then began his head coaching career at the
University of Rochester where he had a 56-60 record in three
seasons.
A graduate of the College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio), McConnell was
a four-year starter in the infield for the Scots and was selected
to the All-Decade Team for the North Coast Athletic Conference for
the 80’s. At Wooster, McConnell played in four straight NCAA
Tournaments and one World Series finishing 5th. He earned a
Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and earned
certification to teach at the Secondary level. In addition, he
holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from
the University of Rochester (Rochester, New York). McConnell was
selected to the Medina County (Ohio) Sports Hall of Fame in April
2007. Coach McConnell also coordinates Intramural Sports for
Suffolk's undergraduate students.

Anthony Del Prete currently serves as an Assistant Baseball Coach and Sports Information Director at Suffolk University. His duties include working with the pitchers as well as overseeing the off-season conditioning programs. Del Prete pitched for the Rams from 2001-2004. He pitched for the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 2002 and for the Columbus All-Americans in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in 2003. After his time at Suffolk, Del Prete had a brief stint with the North Shore Spirit of the independent CanAm League. In 2005, he signed with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. Del Prete spent 3 seasons in Evansville (IN). In the winter of 2005 Del Prete travelled to Perth, Western Australia to pitch for the Melville Braves of the Western Australia State League.
Anthony currently resides in East Boston, and is also a
player/coach for the Testa Corp Bombers of the Intercity League in
the summer. Del Prete graduated from Suffolk in 2004 with a
Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration, and in 2008 he
earned his Master's Degree in Administration of Higher Education.
Jeff Mejia (37), is entering his fiftth season at Suffolk. Jeff has been coaching baseball for 12 years. His years of coaching have been divided between College, Semi-professional and Amateur Athletic Union. At Suffolk, Jeff’s main focus is working with the infield, which in 2009 led the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in fielding percentage (.958). He played collegiate baseball at San Jose City College in California and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Salem State College in Sports Fitness and Leisure Studies with a concentration in Coaching and a minor in Biology. Jeff serves as the Summer Camp Director for the Boston Jr. Rams and is the Assistant Camp Director for the US Sports Nike Baseball Camp.
Jeff is married and has two children and is currently teaching High
School Anatomy and Physiology for the Peabody Public School System.
Jeff was a proud member of the United States Army and served in
Operation Desert Storm.
John O’Brien joined the Suffolk staff in 2003 and is
entering his seventh year with the Rams. He serves as the team's
pitching coach. He is a 1994 graduate of Northeastern University
where he was named All-Conference and All-New England.O’Brien
played for the Cape Cod League Wareham Gatemen in 1992 and in the
professional Frontier League in 1993 and 1994. In Europe, he played
for the Dutch League Haarlem, The Netherlands in 1995 and DSS
Honkbal Club. O’Brien has played intercity league baseball
for 10 seasons and was an assistant coach at Northeastern for one
year before coming to Suffolk. Under Coach O'Brien's tutelage three
of his pitchers have gone on to sign professional contracts
(Anthony Del Prete - Evansville Otters' 05, Mike Rigazio -
Charlotte County Red Fish '07, Rony Mercado - Brocton Rox '08).
Jay Parker is entering his 11th season as a member the Suffolk
Staff and 22nd year of coaching baseball. Jay's years of
coaching have been divided between high school baseball (Mission
High, Boston and Trinity Catholic, Newton, MA) and seven years with
All-Dorchester Sports League (ADSL) Connie Mack 16-18 team. In
2000, the ADSL Connie Mack team participated in an international
tournament held in Havana, Cuba where they were the first American
team to beat Cuba on their home soil. Jay moved up to the college
level when he joined the Suffolk University baseball program in
1999. During Jay's first year, the Rams finished the season as GNAC
and ECAC Champions and set a school record for wins (38), as well
as, making it to the NCAA Regionals in Portland, Maine. Jay is an
alum of Catholic Memorial '81 and a graduate of Bridgewater State
College(1986).
