
The Suffolk University Men's Golf team opened the 2011 fall campaign with a third place showing at Nichols College on Monday afternoon. The Rams teed off at Dudley Hills Golf Course with Wentworth Institute of Technology, Elms College and host Nichols College sharing the greens.
Junior John Pettoruto (Windham, N.H.) led the Rams shooting an 80 on the day on the par 72 course. Pettoruto's score of 80 was fifth best among the twenty players in the quad 'B' match.
Senior Patrick Knowles (Philadelphia, Pa.) shot an 81 on the day for the Rams, while freshman Guillermo Quirch (Miami, Fla.) scored an 83. Seniors Nick Pratt (Sutton, Mass.) and Alex Toma (San Diego, Calif.) rounded out the field of five for the Rams with Pratt shooting an 88, while Toma posted a 91.
The Rams finished with a score of 332, which was third behind winner Wentworth (315) and Elms (320), while the host Bison shot 343 collectively.
Jose Armenteros of Wentworth had the best individual score of the day as he was a +2 shooting 74.
Suffolk will be back on the golf course next Tuesday as they participate in a tri-match hosted by Emmanuel College at William J. Devine Golf Course in Dorchester. Newbury College will also be participating.
