Three Former Rams Set To Square Off Tonight

Three former Suffolk University Hockey players will square off this evening, February 5 in Federal Hockey League (FHL) action as the Danville Dashers (Danville, Ill.) host the Dayton Demonz (Dayton, Ohio) at 7:05pm.

Paul Weisser '11 will be playing in his fourth game of the 2012-13 season for the Dashers. The former Ram forward has scored three goals on the year with one assist. Weisser is entering his second full professional season since graudating from Suffolk University two seasons ago. In 31 career profressional games he has tallied three goals and six assists for a total of nine points. Weisser spent the 2011-12 season bouncing around the FHL with five different clubs making two stops in Delaware to play for the Federals, while also skating for the 1000 Islands Privateers, the Cape Cod Bluefins, and Brooklyn Aviators before finishing the season with Danville. In 96 careers games for Suffolk Weisser tallied 52 points (19 goals, 33 assists).

On the other side of the ice will be former Suffolk defenseman Tim Recio '08 and goaltender Jeff Rose '11.

Recio is entering his fifth season as a professional. In 86 career FHL games, Recio has a goal and an assist and a +14 rating. He started his career with the Evansville IceMen of the All-American Hockey League (AAHL) and has also spent time in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and Sothern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). The Demonz are the seventh minor league team he has player for in his career. Recio appeared in 48 games for Suffolk in his career manning the Suffolk blueline as he record a goal and five assists for Suffolk.

Rose enters his second season as a professional. In 25 games in 2012-13, Rose is 18-2 with a goals against average of 3.39 saving 91.6-percent of the shots he's faced. He was named to the FHL's all-star team this season as he leads the league in almost every statistical category among net minders. Rose signed his first profession contract with the Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) on August 16, 2011. He spent the 2011-12 season with three different teams in the SPHL along with Fayetteville, suiting up for the Pensacola Ice Flyers and Lousiana Ice Gators. In 18 games last season, Rose was 6-8 with a 3.92 goals against average.

Rose had a stellar four-year career at Suffolk University. finishing as the all-time leader in most statistical categories in program history for goalkeepers. In 91 starts Rose posts a 38-47-6 record, while stopping 91 percent of the shots he faced, allowing 3.16 goals per game, while recording four shutouts in that period. Rose's best year came as a junior as he was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Goaltender of the Year. During the 2009-10 campaign Rose put together one of the best statistical seasons ever by a Suffolk net minder. His .919 save percentage and 2.68 goals against average are the best in Suffolk program history, while his 11 victories in goal are the second most ever. Rose set the previous record with 13 wins in 2007-08 during his freshman campaign. Rose finished the year ranked second in the league in save percentage, fifth in goals against average and fourth in winning percentage (.568) with an overall record of 11-8-3. Rose was named ECAC Goalie of the Week consecutively during the final three weeks of that season and four in total. Rose was also named Cod Fish Bowl Tournament Most Valuable Player helping the Rams claim their first ever title in the local tournament. During the two-day tournament Rose stopped 83 of the 87 shots he faced, including a 52 save effort in the Championship Game, a 2-1 victory over host UMass.-Boston. Rose finished this past 2010-11 season posting an .897 save percentage while yielding a 3.56 goals against average starting 23 of the Rams' 24 games between the pipes as he was named to the ECAC Northeast's Honorable Mention team.
