Somerville, MA -- Sophomore Liz McGeoy (Doylestown, PA) scored twenty-eight seconds into the first overtime to lift the Lasell College Lasers (2-1 overall, 1-0 GNAC) past the Suffolk University Rams (2-1 overall, 0-1 GNAC) on a rainy Saturday evening at Dilboy Stadium.

McGeoy's goal came after a scramble in front of the net, after a shot from freshman Mary Farley (Middleboro, MA) and gave the Lasers their first win in conference play in 2009.

The goal was the first allowed by Suffolk goalkeeper Emily Joyce (Easton, MA) in 243 minutes. Joyce made 11 saves in the loss.

Both teams squandered scoring opportunities all day, as the Lasers had three shots bounce off the crossbar, including a header from Farley off of a corner kick that hit the top of the goal post with 21 minutes remaining in the second half. Farley had a shot hit the crossbar in the first half as well.

Sophmore Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA) was held scoreless for the first time all season. The Rams' leading goal scorer had a chance to score on a counter play four minutes into the second half but was stopped by Lasell goalkeeper Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA). With ten seconds remaining in the game Hayden found herself alone on a breakaway, but Stickley stopped her once again. Stickley made four saves for her second victory of the season.

The Lasers spent most of the game on the attack, outshooting the Rams 26-8, including a 12-3 advantage in the first half.

Lasell will be in action on Tuesday as the travel to Clark College in a non-league game, while Suffolk hosts Simmons in a GNAC matchup Wednesday at 6:00pm at George Dilboy Stadium.
