Somerville, MA - Senior goalkeeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, NH) posted her first shutout of the season to lead the Simmons College Sharks (5-3-1, 2-0 GNAC) to a 2-0 victory over the Suffolk University Rams (2-2 overall, 0-2 GNAC) on Wednesday evening.
Junior Anna Stella (Sharon, MA) scored the Sharks' first goal 42:25 into the first half after chasing down a loose ball rebound in front of the Rams' net. Sophomore Anna Bolton (Amherst, NH) gave the Sharks a 2-0 edge in the second half as she broke past the Rams defense on a feed from junior Brooke MacKenie (Mansfield, MA) for her first goal of the season. Bolton also picked up an assist on the Sharks' first goal.
The Rams were held scoreless for the second game in a row. The Rams put four shots on goal but could not get any past Elliot. Suffolk goalkeeper Emily Joyce (Easton, MA) continued her strong play in net, making nine saves total in the game.
Both teams are in action again on Saturday as they continue with their Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule. Simmons will host Mount Ida College at noon, while Suffolk hosts Norwich University at 2:00pm.
