Women's Tennis Top Emerson 5-4

Cambridge, MA - The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team (3-1, 2-0 GNAC) defeated the Emerson College Lions (1-1, 0-1 GNAC), by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday evening. Both teams split singles play matches with an even 3-3 mark, but the Rams prevailed in doubles play 2-1 as they picked up their second conference match win of the season.

Sophomore Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) continued her dominance in single play winning straight sets over Emerson's Laura Miley (Cranston, RI), 6-0, 6-0 in the two position. Cameron now pushes her overall season record to 3-0 in singles play.

Junior Katelyn Paquette (Southbury, CT) and sophomore Kelly Conrad (Lanstahl, Germany) picked up the Rams' other two victories in their respective singles matches. Paquette defeated Kelly McCarthy (Saugus, MA) , 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth singles position, while Conrad was victorious in the five spot beating Gina Varamo (Washington, NJ) 6-3, 6-0 for the match clinching victory for Suffolk.

Emerson's Kayleigh Holt (Somerset, MA) was victorious in her singles match defeating junior Alexandra Hernadez-Vallant (Newton, MA), 7-4 in a tiebreaker in the opening singles match.

Chrissy Laboissonniere (Pawtucket, RI) and Zara Niefield (Cheltenham, PA) picked up Emerson's other two singles victory in the third and sixth positions.

In doubles play, Hernandez-Vallant and Cameron pushed their record to 3-0 defeating Kayleigh Holt and Laura Miley 8-6.

Celia Contreras and Chloe Oldfather picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Kelly McCarthy, 8-5.

Emerson is back in action on Saturday as they host Johnson & Wales University in a GNAC matchup, while the Rams travel to Albertus Magnus College on Sunday.
