Men's Tennis Earn Multiple GNAC All-Conference Awards

Three Suffolk University Men's Tennis players earned All-Conference selections by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the 2014 season.

Sophomore Calixto Romero (Lima, Peru) was named as the GNAC's Player of the Year for his stellar 2014 campaign. Romero was impressive playing as Suffolk's top individual player as he put together a 7-2 mark in the number one singles spot over the course of the season. Romero won a total of nine singles matches on the year which tied for the most of any player in the conference. Romero was also an All-Conference selection as a doubles player as he won a total of seven games in tandem action to bring his total to 16 victories on the season. Romero was also selected to the GNAC All-Tournament team for Suffolk's playoff run. Over the course of two seasons Romero has won a total of 28 matches between singles and doubles play combined for Suffolk. He has a total of 14 victories in individual play during his career including nine in the number one singles spot.

Junior Marc Winkler (Caracas, Venezuela) was also named as a first team All-Conference selection. Winkler was 5-1 in singles play for Suffolk as he was 3-1 in the number two singles position while also winning a pair of games in the top spot. It is the third straight season that Winkler has been recognized with a first team All-Conference selection by the league. He was named the GNAC's Rookie of the Year in 2012 as he was 6-2 on the year playing primarily as Suffolk's number one player. In three seasons with the Rams, Winkler has won 14 games in singles play and another 16 combined in doubles action bringing his career mark to a 30-15 record.

Romero and Winkler were also selected to the GNAC All-Conference team as a doubles pair. They were voted as the league's second best tandem with a 4-3 mark in seven games. Romero and Winkler played together in the number one doubles game in each of their matches together.

Senior Drew Reilly (Boston, Mass.) was a second team All-Conference selection by the GNAC in singles play. Reilly was 7-1 on the season in individual action as he was 3-0 in the number two position and 4-1 in the number three spot. Reilly was also selected to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team as well as earning All-Tournament honors as he was Suffolk's lone singles player to win two matches during the playoffs. Reilly has been victorious in 52 games throughout a three year career for Suffolk, including winning 22 singles contests.

Suffolk finishes the 2014 season with a 9-3 overall record. They advanced to the GNAC Finals before falling short against Ramapo College 5-1 in the league's championship game. It was Suffolk's seventh straight appearance in the league's final game of the season.
