JWU Uses Fast Start to Down Women’s Basketball, 75-49

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Suffolk women's basketball fell to Johnson & Wales, 75-49, in a road Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on Wednesday night at the Wildcat Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • JWU controlled the tempo early on, leading by as many as eight in the opening quarter thanks to nine points from Brianne Foley. Tatiana Tune led Suffolk with four points to help trim the deficit to 14-9 at the end of the first frame.
  • The Wildcats extended their lead to 37-17 at halftime, using a 23-8 second quarter that featured two separate 7-0 runs.
  • Ava Thurman and Jordan Moreau each scored five points in the third quarter, but the Rams were unable to build momentum as the teams traded short runs, heading into the final period with JWU leading 61-37.
  • The final frame lacked much offensive rhythm, with the Wildcats outscoring Suffolk 14-11 to secure the 75-49 victory.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Moreau led the way with nine points and three rebounds.
  • Olivia Verdile totaled eight points and grabbed three boards.
  • Thurman tallied seven points to pair with four rebounds and one assist.
