BOSTON - Less than a month away from its season opener, the Suffolk women's soccer team has released its 2018 schedule, which features eight contests at the friendly confines of East Boston Memorial Park.
Suffolk's first five tilts will be played on its own turf in Eastie. Action gets underway on the last day of August with Lesley making the short trip to James A. Sartori Stadium. There is little turn around between games one and two as Rhode Island College heads to town the following day for a Saturday, Sept. 1 matinee. The remainder of the homestand transitions into conference contests with Regis (Sept. 8), Anna Maria (Sept. 12) and new GNAC member Colby Sawyer (Sept. 15) all scheduled to visit East Boston.
The Rams will be tested on the road for the first time Wednesday, Sept. 19 as it travels to Albertus Magnus, before heading back home for a showdown with St. Joseph (Conn.) Saturday, Sept. 22.
A road swing ensues with trips to Lasell (Sept. 27), Rivier (Sept. 29) and Simmons (Oct. 3) scattered over a six day stretch.
Home games with Saint Joseph's (Maine) and Emmanuel are sandwiched around a visit to Johnson & Wales (Oct. 10). Prior to first kick with the Monks, Saturday, Oct. 6, the Rams will honor the playing careers of its graduating seniors, while the Wednesday, Oct. 17 game with the Saints wraps up the regular season home slate.
Suffolk caps off the 2018 regular-season slate on away from home as it travels to Norwich (Oct. 20) and Mass. Maritime (Oct. 23).
A core of the Rams offense from last season's squad was lost to graduation with just two of its 37 scored goals back in the line-up. Suffolk will rely heavily on its veteran keepers Julia Fieldsend (14 GP, 2.29 GAA, .766 save percentage) and Kirsten Weiker (5 GP, 2.96 GAA, .710 save percentage) to lead the blue-and-gold back into the GNAC playoffs for the third consecutive campaign.
