BOSTON – Suffolk women's tennis has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming GNAC Championship tournament.
The Rams wrapped up the regular season, their first under Interim Head Coach Matthew Tiberii, 7-6 overall and 3-3 versus conference competition to clinch the fourth seed.
Johnson & Wales won the regular season with an unbeaten 6-0 league ledger, while first-year league member Regis, who went 5-1 in conference action, also earned a first-round bye along with the Wildcats.
GNAC Quarterfinal action commences Wednesday, Oct. 18 as No. 3 Simmons and Suffolk entertain the sixth and fifth seeds, respectively. The Rams welcome Saint Joseph (Conn.) to North Reading High School for a 4:30 p.m. first serve. The winner advances to the semifinal Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Winchester Tennis Center where they will face the tournament's top seed Johnson & Wales at 2 p.m. Suffolk and St. Joseph (Conn.) will face off for the first time in the post season. The Rams took the first meeting with the Blue Jays, who finished the regular season 5-6 overall and 2-4 in league play, by a 7-2 margin.
In the other first round match, The Sharks will entertain Albertus Magnus at 4:30 p.m. at Daly Field in Boston. The victor of the No. 3/No. 6 showdown, will go on to take on No. 2 Regis in the semis.
Suffolk makes its 10th consecutive conference championship appearance and first-ever as the fourth seed. The Rams have advance to the semifinals on six occasions, including four straight and played in the championship contest twice. Overall, the blue and gold raised the conference crown once in 2007, the inaugural GNAC Women's Tennis title.
