Hall of Fame Series: Buzzy Borden '69

BOSTON – Over the next few weeks, GoSuffolkRams.com will take a look at the teams, student-athletes and special honorees to be inducted into the Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Fame this October. Our next installment features dominating pitcher Buzzy Borden ’69.

Borden, a Rams’ four-year baseball letterman, established a school-record for wins, going 17-9 from 1966 to 1969. In a school-record 19 complete games, he struck out 235, which is good for second-most on the Rams’ charts. He also set Suffolk’s record for strikeouts per inning with 14.59.

In his first-year on the mound, Borden appeared in 10 games, starting and completing nine to produce a 6-3 record. His nine complete contests are tied for second in Suffolk’s single-season record books. A year later, the hurler notched a 1.40 ERA, which lands fourth in a single-season.

Things slowed down for Borden as a junior, but he became a criterion as a senior winding up a brilliant career by helping the Rams to a 12-5 season. Suffolk hurled the stuffed sphere at some of New England’s top schools, taking down Worcester Technology, Brandeis, Bates, Bentley, Assumption and Hartford.

Borden is the sixth baseball player to be inducted into the Suffolk Athletics Hall of Fame, including multi-sport athletes, and is one-of-two from the diamond in the Class of 2015.

The Class of 2015 features six Rams, one distinguished team and two special honorees to join the 35 existing Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Famers.

The 2015 Suffolk Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m. at 20 Somerset. Tickets to the luncheon and induction ceremony for the Class of 2015 are available here.
