Freshman Jake Flax (Wyckoff, N.J.) was named Baseball Rookie of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on April 20.
Flax recorded his third win of the season on the mound on Saturday as the first year hurler defeated St. Joseph's College in a 7-4 game two victory in their GNAC doubleheader. Flax allowed four runs, two earned, while scattering nine hits. He only struck out just one hitter before giving way to junior Cal Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) who recorded the final out of the game for the save.
Flax moves to a 3-1 record on the year with a save. He has beaten the top two teams in the GNAC as the Monks finished with a league best 12-2 record. Flax also defeated Johnson & Wales on April 11 as he struck out three in a complete game three hit victory, a 9-2 Suffolk win.
Suffolk will enter as the number three seed in this week's upcoming six team tournament conference tournament. They will host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday evening in a win to advance game at 7:30pm at Adams Field in Quincy. The winner of Tuesday's contest will advance to this weekend's four team double elimination tournament hosted by Suffolk at Holman Stadium in Nashua.
