BEVERLY, Mass. – Errors and free bases plagued Suffolk baseball as it fell to Endicott, 10-0 in eight innings in its Conference of New England (CNE) opener Thursday afternoon at North Stadium.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Endicott 8
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-11, 0-1 CNE) | Endicott (7-5, 1-0 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A two-out one-run dinger off Adam Regan's bat in the bottom of the third gave Endicott a 1-0 edge. The Gulls looked to rally around that homer as Kyle Grabowski walked, stole second and landed on third behind TJ Liponis' base hit to second that put runners in the corners for the host. The Rams defense kept the damage at one as they caught Liponis stealing for the final out of the frame to keep things close.
- A pair of walks, hits and Rams' errors allowed the Gulls to stretch their advantage to 5-0 in the fourth.
- Endicott continued to lengthened the lead in the next inning as it put up three runs on five walks and two hit by pitches to make things lopsided 8-0.
- Suffolk's base running was limited to just one Ram the rest of the way and the host put away the game with a pair of runs in the eighth for the 10-0 final.
