Hartford Handles Baseball in Game One, 11-3

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Suffolk baseball dropped the opener of a Conference of New England (CNE) doubleheader to Hartford, 11-3, Saturday afternoon at Fiondella Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Hartford 11
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-19, 2-6 CNE) | Hartford (12-9-1, 6-2 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hartford flew out to a 4-0 lead in the first. A two-run shot by Alek Popovich put the Hawks on the board, but they did not stop there. Jackson Ciccone singled and scored courtesy of Cameron Boardman's triple. The extra base hits continued for the host as Jeremy Manigameli doubled to plate Boardman.
  • Suffolk sliced the distance in half in the top of the fourth. Luke Thornton's one-out double to right field pushed Sam Armbruster, who reached on a fielder's choice, to third. Sebastian Lampert cleared the bases with a single to left field to pull the Rams within two, 4-2.
  • That margin did not stay login as the Hawks responded in the home half of the fourth with two runs of their own on three hits to restore the four-run gap.
  • The Rams made up some ground in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back base hits by Vasili Scangas and Jack Mihalchik put runner sin the corners as Colin Flynn came to the plate. Suffolk's centerfielder hit into a fielder's choice at second, which allowed Scangas to score safely and turn it into a 6-3 game.
  • Back-and-forth carried into the bottom of the fifth as Hartford put up three runs on two hits, two walks and a Rams error to extend the deficit to 9-3.
  • More scoring came for Hartford in the sixth as it lengthened its lead to 11-3 behind two hits and one Rams fielding mishap.
  • Zeroes went up on the board for both sides from there for the score to hold 11-3 at the final.
