Second Half Surge Leads Regis Over Men’s Basketball, 66-62

BOSTON – Behind a 13-0 run, Regis came back and out did the Suffolk men's basketball team in the second half to take down the Rams, 66-62, Saturday afternoon inside Regan Gymnasium.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
A back-and-forth battle was present right off the tip and held until Jamal Fiin gave Suffolk an 11-10 edge at the 11:09 minute mark. Suffolk built a 16-10 lead that turned into a 19-13 cushion on Jim Djema's first trey of the day. 

Regis slowly chipped away at the margin and equalized the score at 21-all  with 3:47 to play before halftime. Thomas Duffy ensured the lead for the blue-and-gold with the sophomore swishing a NBA-range three. The Pride remained persistent, however, and evened the score twice more at 25-all and 28-all, but threes from Brendan Mulson and Djema kept Suffolk in front, 31-28, at half. 

Suffolk charged out of the locker room and went up 43-33 after a 10-2 spurt with all 10 points coming from Michael Hagopian. Out of a Regis timeout, Duffy put 12 points between the rivals with back-to-back hoops. 

The Rams suffered from a scoring lull that lasted nearly six minutes and the Pride took advantage, rattling off 13 unanswered points in that time to reserve the roles and take a 48-47 lead. 

The score locked twice from there and Duffy regained the edge for the Rams, 53-51,  at the 5:21 minute mark. Down the stretch, a late rally from Regis turned the tides once again with the visitors going up 62-57 with 1:21 on the clock. 

Despite multiple attempts, Suffolk would not come back from there as the Pride held on for the 66-62 win. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Hagopian led three Rams in double figures with 18 points.
• Mulson contributed 16 points and six boards as well as a pair of steals and one block.
• Duffy's 11 points came on a 5-for-6 effort from the field with the sophomore adding seven boards, three steals and two assists.
• Djema pitched in eight points, thee caroms and three handouts. 

NOTEWORTHY

• Mulson had his 10th collegiate contest with double figures.
• Hagopian put together his 16th game in double digits.
• Duffy has now scored in double figures in eighth consecutive contest and 18th times this season.
