Wentworth defeats Suffolk Hockey 7-1

Junior Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alta.) and freshman Forrest Ellis (Pembroke, N.H.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Wentworth to a 7-1 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Suffolk Tuesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

Markers off the sticks of Olitch and freshman Luke Heller (Scituate, Mass.) in the opening 20 minutes of action lifted the visiting Leopards (4-1, 3-0 ECAC Northeast) to a 2-0 first period advantage, and Wentworth extended that lead with five tallies in the first 11:43 of the middle stanza, including a pair by Ellis and single goals from Olitch, junior Martin Winzer (Nuremburg, Germany) and sophomore Tyler Medeiros (Somerset, Mass.), in taking a 7-0 edge after two. Senior Mitch Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif.) netted the lone marker of the evening for the host Rams (0-4, 0-2 ECAC Northeast), as his unassisted tally with six seconds remaining accounted for the final score.

Heller and Medeiros each finished with a goal and an assist in the win for the Leopards, who also received a pair of assists from seniors Derek Rupert (Louisville, N.Y.) and Dave Lewandowski (Glenmore, Pa.) as well as freshmen Casey Shade (Anchorage, Ak.) and Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.). Sophomore Kyle Richardson (San Jose, Calif.) and freshman Mike Paglino (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.) notched single helpers for the visitors as well for the contest.

Junior Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) picked up his fourth win of the season by stopping 19 of 20 shots for Wentworth, while sophomore Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) and junior Bill Gilbert (Forestdale, Mass.) combined for 43 stops in net for Suffolk as the Leopards outshot the Rams by a 50-20 margin for the evening.

Suffolk hosts Johnson & Wales in an ECAC Northeast outing on Thursday evening at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 8:15 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Franklin Pierce in an ECAC Northeast match-up on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena beginning at 2:15 p.m.
