Akermark, Lowe Return as Men’s Hockey Captains in 2023-24

BOSTON – Men's hockey coach Shawn McEachern has unveiled that the upperclassmen twosome of Olle Akermark and Devin Lowe will don the "C" on their Suffolk sweaters for the 2023-24 campaign.

The pair takes the post for the second straight-season after sharing the role alongside Nick Lachaine and Cal Wilcox a year ago.

The two skaters continue a long tradition of Suffolk men's hockey captains dating back when the program picked up after a hiatus in 1980-81 when James Tropsa led the blue-and-gold. They are the first pair to earn the job since Joe Feeney and Billy Roche shared the role in 2021-22. Individually there have been repeat captains for Suffolk in recent history, however, Akermark and Lowe are the first pair to serve as captains in back-to-back seasons in the Rams' year-by-year record book which dates through the 2000-01 campaign. Nearly 80 Rams have worn a letter at Suffolk University in the last 45-plus seasons.

Akermark, a senior defenseman from Stockholm, Sweden, has been a staple on the blue line throughout his collegiate career. In 41 games played, he has racked up 13 points on two goals and 11 assists.

Lowe took advantage of his fifth year. The graduate student that calls Ownings Mills, Maryland home, has produced 43 points on 17 goals and 26 handouts in 77 appearances. He has lifted the blue-and-gold to victory twice with two game-winners to his credit including last year's second semester open, a 4-2 triumph over Franklin Pierce, Jan. 7, 2023.

Suffolk is set to lift the lid on its 2023-24 campaign with back-to-back battles at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink this weekend. First, Albertus Magnus pays the Rams a visit Friday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m., with Salem State set to stop by Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2:50 p.m.
