BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk men's ice hockey team and No. 7 Endicott sat deadlocked at 1-1 after two periods, but the second-seeded Gulls poured in three unanswered in the third to take down the third-seeded Rams, 4-1, in the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinals Saturday afternoon at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | No. 7 Endicott 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (17-9-1) | No. 7 Endicott (19-3-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After killing off a Rams power play, the Gulls opened the scoring in transition as Collin Kleiser moved the puck to Jack Costanzo, who found Anthony Cafarelli cutting into the zone. Cafarelli finished glove side at 13:11 of the first period to give Endicott a 1-0 lead.
- Austin McNicholas kept it a one-goal game late in the second, turning aside Sebastian Speck with a strong pad save.
- Suffolk broke through with 1:10 left in the second. Ralph Berry's shot was deflected in front, but Ryan Webb held the puck in at the blue line, carried into space and fired a shot past the goaltender's left pad to even the score at 1-1.
- Endicott regained the lead with 9:50 to play, capitalizing on a turnover at the blue line. Kleiser intercepted a pass and sent John Goldowski in on goal. McNicholas made the initial stop, but Michael Casey buried the rebound for a shorthanded tally and a 2-1 advantage.
- Just under two minutes later, Kleiser extended the lead to 3-1, slipping a shot five-hole following a neutral zone turnover.
- Noah Gibbs sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal at the 1:07 mark.
