Juan Gonzalez begins his sixth year on Bill Maddock's staff and seventh season with the men's soccer program as an assistant coach at in 2025.

Gonzalez was a part of the Rams' final GNAC season in 2019 in which the blue-and-gold built a 6-9-1 overall record.

His second season, first under Maddock's leadership, was set for 2020, however, that was side-lined due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Although the Rams did not take the field in 2020 there is still a noteworthy accomplishment as Tucker Mee was acknowledged for his academic and athletic achievements with a CoSIDA Academic All-District honor. He is the first player in program history to take home the feat.

In 2021, Gonzalez helped Suffolk transition into its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) era. That year the blue-and-gold built an 8-9-1 overall record and earned the eighth seed in the CCC postseason. Individually, Nigel Leo and Brady Sorensen shined as the pair received All-CCC recognition. The former earned a place on first team, while the latter picked up a spot on the second team. Leo, who led the team in all offensive categories, collected an all-region second-team nod from the United Soccer Coaches as well. On top of the atlhetic achievements, Leo became the second Ram in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for his combined academic and athletic efforts.

Gonzalez fourth campaign saw Suffolk competed in the CCC Championship for the first time in program history as the fourth-seeded Rams played their way into the title tilt after going 8-8-5 in the regular-season and 4-2-3 versus conference counterparts. United Soccer Coaches All-Region second-team selection Brady Sorensen anchored Suffolk's scoring unit, while Xander Balog held down the back field with an impressive nine shutouts to his credit. That duo headlined a group of five All-CCC honorees. Jack Phelps and Tommy Handelsman joined Balog on the second team, while Carter Van Buskirk and Sorensen were selected to the third team.

Gonzalez fifth season saw Suffolk work its way to the CCC Championship contest for the first time in program history. As the fourth seed the Rams moved on from the quarterfinals in penalty kicks and shutout then-No. 23 Endicott, 2-0, in the semis to punch the title tilt ticket.

Brady Sorensen received United Soccer Coaches All-Region acknowledgement with a spot on the second team. He was one of five palyers to take home All-CCC status after Suffolk went 8-8-5 overall and 4-2-3 versus league foes.

A year later, Suffolk received votes in the United Soccer Coaches national poll for the first time in program history and was a staple in the regional ranks all season. The blue-and-gold fell one game shy of returning to the conference championship contest after slipping to Western New England in penalty kicks in the semifinals.

A program-best seven all-league selections were main ingredients to help the squad achieve double-digit wins at 10-5-4 overall. Once again Sorensen was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region II team with his third honor in as many years.

In 2024, Suffolk's hard work paid off as it captured the CNE Championship with a penalty kick shootout win over Roger Williams. The second-seeded Rams blanked WNE, 1-0, in the semis before playing RWU to a 1-1 draw and winning the trophy via PKs. The league tournament success was thanks in large part to a 10-save per game effort by the tournament's Most Outstanding Player Nathan Harlow who had 20 saves in the Rams run was a main ingredient to the team's second-ever conference crown.

The program's second-ever trip to the NCAA DIII First Round sent Suffolk to Connecticut College where Evan Van Even made history as the first Ram to score a goal in the national tournament.

Awards poured in for the 2024 squad as Harlow, Jack Phelps and Francisco Valck all garnered United Soccer Coaches All-Region II Second-Team distinction. The trio is the first group of teammates to be recognized regionally in the same season in program history. On the conference level, seven student-athletes received all-league nods for the second straight season to tie a program record.

Gonzalez brought years of valuable playing and coaching experience to the Rams’ staff.

After competing for the Falcons at Bentley University, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Finance with a minor in Sport Management in 2015, he began his extensive coaching venture. The Somerville native’s resume is highlighted by roles at the club, high school, and collegiate level, most recently as the Head Coach of the New England Futbol Club out of Bedford, Massachusetts.

In his first volunteer season at Suffolk in 2019, Gonzalez helped guide the Rams to a 6-9-1 overall record.

Gonzalez also possesses a D License with the United States Soccer Federation.
