BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) released the 2022 Softball Coaches' Preseason Poll Tuesday morning and according to the panel of 10 CCC head coaches, the Suffolk softball team is slated to finish seventh.
The Rams, who will be under the leadership of first-year head coach Janet Maguire, picked up 50 points in the poll to take seventh ahead of Gordon (37), Wentworth (22) and Curry (14). Only 10 points separated spots four through seven though with Roger Williams (60), Salve Regina (57) and Nichols (54) edging out the blue-and-gold for the higher spots.
Two-time defending CCC Champ Endicott was an almost unanimous pick to three-peat as the Gulls garnered all, but one first-place vote, to sit atop the preseason predictions with 99 points. Western New England received the only other first-place nod to sit in second with 90 points, while the University of New England rounded out the top three with 67 points.
Maguire's squad features a mix of experience and new comers. Suffolk, who is in the hunt for its first CCC post-season berth, will look to be led by all-league upperclassmen third baseman Ally Cifaratta, outfielder Caitlin Murphy, designated player Savannah Scripter and right-handed twirler Kennedy Reyes.
The Rams are 11 days way from first pitch of their 2022 campaign that gets underway at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Saturday, March 12.
