BOSTON – Suffolk softball's quest for the 2025 Conference of New England crown is set to get underway Wednesday, May 7 as the first round pits the fifth-seeded Rams against fourth seed Roger Williams. First pitch at Endicott's Softball Complex in Beverly, Massachusetts is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

SUFFOLK IN THE CNE TOURNAMENT

  • Suffolk will straight its fourth straight trip to the CNE Tournament. 
  • The Rams are competing in the CNE postseason as the fifth seed for the first time. 
  • Overall, Suffolk is 1-6 in the CNE postseason. 
  • The Rams are 0-3 when playing at Endicott's Softball Complex in the CNE postseason.
  • The Rams are 1-4 in the Megan Cook era in the CNE Tournament. 
  • There have been two shutouts for Suffolk in the CNE Tournament. 
  • The Rams are 1-1 when a team is kept off the scoreboard in the CNE postseason. 
  • Two CNE Tournament games for Suffolk have been decided via run-rule, both came in 2023. 
  • Suffolk is 0-2 when a game is determined via mercy-rule.
  • The Rams have needed extra time to decide a winner in the CNE Tournament once, the 2024 CNE First Round Game against Nichols.

SUFFOLK IN CONFEREENCE POSTSEASON ACTION

  • The Rams will start their 24th trip to the postseason, fourth straight. 
  • Suffolk owns one conference crown to its credit, the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title in 1996. 
  • Suffolk is the fifth seed in a conference tournament for the second time in program history, first in its CNE tenure and first since 2014, when it played as the fifth seed in the GNAC Tournament. 
  • The Rams are 2-2 as the fifth seed in a league's postseason play.
  • The blue-and-gold has never hoisted a league banner when an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament has been on the line.    

LAST TIME OUT
In a true twirler's dual, Suffolk softball came out on the wrong side of a 2-0 decision to Western New England in the nightcap of a Conference of New England doubleheader Saturday at Golden Bear Softball Park.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk was swept by Western New England to end the regular-season 16-20 overall.  

Catherine Carignan has been the leader at the plate for the blue-and-gold with team-best numbers in hits (45) and runs scored (25) to go along with 16 RBI, good for second on the squad. Julia Mills, meanwhile, has brought in a team-high 20 runs on 39 hits and scored 17 times herself. Lily Gustafson (33 H, 11 RBI, 17 R), Lily Newhall (28 H, 14 RBI, 13 R) and Ava Brandow (29 H, 11 RBI, 13 R) have been consistent contributors to the offense as well.  

Newhall (102.0 IP, 50 K, 3.02 ERA) and Cynthia Rucinski (87.1 IP, 3.21 ERA, 49 K) are the one-two punch in the circle for the Rams. 

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HAWKS
Roger Williams rides a two-game win streak into the postseason that put the team at 22-16 on the year.  

Shannon Starratt has produced 45 hits including nine doubles, three triples and five jacks, for 26 RBI and 26 runs scored. Her hits and RBI sit atop the team. Lucy Maurao (38 H, 11 RBI, 20 R), Hailey Williams (36 H, 15 RBI, 20 R) and Christina Denovellis (32 H, 24 RBI, 10 R) have all supplied 30-plus hits to RWU's scoring unit.  

In the circle, Keira Quadros (93.2 IP, 2.79 ERA, 82 K) and Raegen Germano (91.0 IP, 3.16 ERA, 104 K) are the go-to starters.  

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk and Roger Williams dueled in a double feature April 18. The Rams were blanked in game one, 4-0, before they captured the nightcap in walk-off fashion, 2-1.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is 9-10 all-time against Roger Williams.
