Softball Sees Three Grab All-CNE

BEVERLY,  Mass. – Suffolk softball had three student-athletes recognized with All-Conference of New England distinction, the league office announced Tuesday. Catherine Carignan headlined the group with a first-team selection, while Julia Mills and Lily Newhall were selected to the second and third teams, respectively.  

The trio helped Suffolk to a 16-22 overall record and 10-8 CNE mark, good for the fifth-spot in the CNE Tournament, its fourth straight season with a league postseason bid.  

Carignan led the Rams' bats all season, quite literally as the lead-off hitter sat atop the squad in nearly every statistical category. The junior from Litchfield, New Hampshire, produced 45 hits including eight doubles, two jacks and one triple behind a .352/.394/.477 slash she. She added 16 RBI and scored 25 runs. On the base paths, she stole seven bags in eight tries. In the field, the center fielder assembled a .928 fielding percentage.  

Mills, a sophomore second baseman that calls Westborough, Massachusetts, home, sat second on the second in hits with 40 to her credit thanks to a .352 connection rate at the dish. The right-handed batter brought in a team-best 20 runs and scored 17 herself and stole a team-high 10 bases.  

Newhall split her time in the circle and at first base this season. The Lynn, Massachusetts native was a pitching force with a staff-best 2.91 ERA in 105.2 innings over 20 appearances, 17 starts. The right-handed twirler put together an 8-7 pitching recording with 13 complete games including a pair of shutouts. She fanned 51 batters. Offensively, the junior transfer added 28 hits, half of which were doubles, 14 RBI and 13 runs.  

The accolades were a first for all three Rams in their Suffolk careers and marked the first all-league honorees for the blue-and-gold since 2023 when three student-athletes received the recognition. 

On top of the all-conference honors, freshman Giavanna Bellino was awarded a spot on the CNE Community Service Team, which recognizes student-athletes on every member institution's squad that demonstrates a commitment to their community.  

Since joining the CNE ranks in 2021, Suffolk has picked up 13 awards from the conference including one rookie of the year, two first-team nods, six second-team selections and four third-team picks.
