Trio to Captain Softball in 2026

BOSTON – For the first time in her tenure, Suffolk softball head coach Megan Cook has named a core group of captains in upperclassmen Catherine CarignanLily Newhall and Jolie Quintana.

The group all begin their first season in the position and are the first Rams to earn the captain role since the trio of Ally CifarattaSavannah Scripter and Caitlin Murphy shared the role in 2023.

Carignan, who garnered a spot on the Conference of New England's First-Team a year ago, has been a staple in the outfield over the last three seasons. The Litchfield, New Hampshire product paced Suffolk at the plate last season with 45 hits behind a .352/.394/.477 slash line. Of her 40-plus hits, 11 were good for extra bases including eight doubles. The right-handed hitter brought in 16 runs and scored 25 herself.

Newhall was a crucial twirler for the blue-and-gold. Over 105.2 innings pitched, she fanned 51 batters and assembled a 2.91 ERA. Offensively, the right-handed hitter that calls Lynn, Massachusetts home, provided 28 hits, including 10 doubles, with 14 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Quintana returned to the Rams roster for her fifth season. The graduate student from Lynn, Massachusetts has registered 91 hits over three seasons with a .293 career batting average. A year ago, the right-handed catcher pitched in 14 hits, eight RBI and six runs scored.

The group will look to lead a Suffolk squad that welcomes back 10 from last season's team that went 16-22 overall and finished fifth in the CNE with a 10-8 league ledger. The tri-captains will have their leadership work cut out as Cook brought in half a dozen newcomers to the fold for the program's 43rd season, which gets underway this weekend in California.
