CLAREMONT, Calif. – Suffolk softball suffered its first setback of the 2026 season as Claremont Mudd Scripps blanked the Rams, 9-0, in five innings in the opening outing of a double feature Sunday afternoon at Athena Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Athenas' advantaged started early as they put the Rams in a 3-0 hole after the first inning. 
  • Suffolk's offensive chances were limited in its next two turns at the plate as the blue-and-gold batters went down in order. 
  • CMS extended the margin to seven as it used five hits and one Rams' fielding mishap to push the gap to 7-0 in the bottom of the third. 
  • The Athenas put the game away with two more in the bottom of the fourth for the 9-0 final.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Lily Newhall took the loss int eh circle as she gave up nine runs, two earned, on 10 hits and two walks with one punchout. in 4.0 innings
  • Hannah Adams earned the three-hit, two-strikeout shutout.

  • Suffolk met Claremont Mudd Scripps for the first time.
