BOSTON – The Suffolk women's basketball team, who finished third in the GNAC South Standings, will make the trek to Northfield, Vermont, Tuesday, Feb. 21 for a 7 p.m. quarterfinals Showdown at Norwich.
Suffolk's 22nd straight appearance in the GNAC Tournament comes on the heels of a 17-8 regular season and a 13-3 record against conference competition, marking the most conference victories since joining the GNAC ranks in 1995.
Norwich heads to the tournament as the second seed in the North standings with a 9-7 league ledger and an overall 15-10 mark.
In the regular season, Suffolk overcame a 15-point deficit to edge the Cadets, 68-63, Jan. 16 behind a 17-point, nine-rebound performance from senior Georgia Bourikas. The Rams have rattled off eighth straight wins against Norwich and hold a 20-8 all-time record versus the Cadets.
Tuesday's contest between the Rams and the Cadets marks the second straight season and third time overall the teams will meet in the quarterfinals. A year ago, Alexandra Nagri poured in a season-high 19 points to lead Suffolk past Norwich, 55-51, for the first time in the first round of the tournament. Overall, Suffolk and Norwich have competed six times in the post-season with the Cadets holding the edge, 4-2.
The four winners from Tuesday's games will advance to the semifinals Thursday, Feb. 25 at the highest remaining seeded school with the victors meeting in the championship Saturday, Feb. 25. The winner will earn the GNACs automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
