BEVERLY, Mass. – On the heels of her 1,000th save as a Ram, Suffolk women's ice hockey's Katelyn Michals was tabbed Conference of New England (CNE) Goaltender of the Week for the second time in as many weeks after, leading the blue-and-gold to a 2-0 record against Western New England, the conference office announced Monday.
The Westwood, Massachusetts netminder compiled a 1.50 goals against average and a .964 save percentage over the two-game stretch against the Golden Bears, who were receiving votes in last week's USCHO.com poll.
The junior recorded 36 saves in Thursday's 2-1 victory in Springfield and had 42 stops to her credit two days later in Eastie in the 4-2 triumph over WNE.
The home-and-home series sweep extended Suffolk's current winning streak to four games, the program's most since stringing four wins together Nov. 4-12, 2022. The Rams are unbeaten in their last five outings (4-0-1), the program's longest undefeated stretch since Jan. 20-Feb. 10, 2023, when the blue-and-gold went 6-0-1.
This marks Michals' second career CNE Goaltender of the Week honor in as many weeks makes her the first Suffolk goalie to capture the accolade in back-to-back weeks in program history. She is the most recognized netminder in blue-and-gold since Lily O'Neil earned two distinctions in 2023-24.
Michals and the Rams continue their season Saturday, Nov. 29 with a matchup at Trinity scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
