BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England scored one goal in each period to take down Suffolk women's ice hockey, 3-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) play Saturday at Harold Alfond Forum.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | University of New England 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-4-1, 4-3-1 CNE)) | University of New England (5-6-0, 3-3-0 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With nearly six minutes removed from the first period the Nor'Easters got onto the board. Abbi Charvat and Danielle McCarthy got in a battle on the boards with the Rams on the left side of the ice. UNE's players managed to win the puck and reversed the puck to a waiting Jenna Kirch, who took it in and sniped a shot from the right face-off dot that whizzed by Katelyn Michals.
- The host took that lead and doubled it in the middle period. Multiple rebounds in front caught Michals off guard and Amanda Forziati tucked the puck home on the power play at the 16:20 mark of the second, which sent Suffolk into the second intermission down a pair.
- As time ticked off the clock, the blue-and-gold pulled Michals from between the pipes in the hopes to get on the board with an extra skater. The empty net paid for UNE, however, as Hannah Humes stole the puck in the neutral zone and easily flicked it towards the back of the cage for the 3-0 final.
NETMINDER NOTES
- Michals had 19 in the setback.
- Kyleigh Matola turned aside all 39 shots she faced for the clean sheet.
