Boston, MA - Suffolk University Women's Tennis had two of their top players earn recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their efforts during the 2009 regular season as both sophomore Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) and junior Alexandra Hernandez-Vallant (Newton, MA) were named as All-Conference selections by the league's coaches.
Cameron, who finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record in the regular season was named to the GNAC's First All-Conference team. Cameron finished 7-0 in GNAC play and 8-0 in the two position, with her other two victories coming in the one spot for Suffolk. In 20 of Cameron's games this year, she has won by a 6-0 score 17 times. Cameron, who was named GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2008, has now pushed her combined record over the past two seasons to 22-0 in singles play.
Hernandez-Vallant was named to the GNAC's Second All-Conference team. The junior finished the season with a 3-5 record as the Rams' top player, despite battling injuries for much of the season. Hernanez-Vallant was named the GNAC's Rookie of the Year in 2007, and was a First-team selection in 2008. In three seasons she now posts a singles record of 20-10 and is 26-1 in doubles play. She was also named to the GNAC's All-Sportsmanship team in 2008.
Both Cameron and Hernandez-Vallant were also named to the GNAC's Second team for doubles play as they combined on an 8-1 record together, going 5-1 in GNAC play in 2009.
Sophomore Rebecca Copeland (Bristol, RI) was also recognized being named to the GNAC's All-Sportsmanship team. Copeland finished the season with a 4-4 record in singles play, playing most of the season out of the 3 & 4 positions for the Rams.
The Rams finished the season with an 8-4 record, going 6-2 in conference play for a second place finish. Suffolk advanced to the GNAC finals for the third straight year before losing to Simmons College.
