BOSTON – Suffolk women's tennis is set to get its 2025 campaign underway Tuesday, Sept. 2 at UMass Boston at 3:00 p.m.

RAMS REWIND
Suffolk women's tennis emerged in the CNE Postseason for the first time in program history a year ago and looks to build off that momentum in 2025.

The Rams will be led by second-year head coach Zach Goodstein, who brings back three student-athletes – junior Nia Bebb and seniors Jaylin Hills and Elene Nishnianidze – from last season's team that went 1-11 overall and 1-5 in league play.  

RAMS ROOKIES
Suffolk women's tennis is primarily made up of fresh faces as second-year head coach Zach Goodstein has brought in seven rookies for the 2025 season. 

Of the seven newcomers four are sophomores -- Callie ClarkJulia LanczyckiBrianna Nelson and Palina Vialichka – with a pair of freshmen -- Elizabeth Lassner and Molly Whitfield -- and one junior, Thu Nguyen.

GEOGRAPHY 101
The Rams geographical make-up spreads six states and three countries. 

State wise, a pair come from the Bay State and Connecticut, while Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire and Vermont are represented by one Ram apiece.  

In addition to the United States, one student-athlete brought their talents to the United States from Georgia and Vietnam. 

CLASS CATEGORIES
Suffolk's 10-player roster is well mixed. The bulk of the players hail from the Class of 2028 in four sophomores Callie ClarkJulia LanczyckiBrianna Nelson and Palina Vialichka. There are a pair of true freshmen Elizabeth Lassnerand Molly Whifield, as well as a duo of juniors Nia Bebb and Thu Nguyen and seniors in Jaylin Hills and Elene Nishnianidze

COACH'S COURT
Zach Goodstein became the newest head coach of Suffolk women's tennis last season.  

In his first collegiate head coaching role, he led the Rams to the Conference of New England (CNE) postseason, the program's first-ever berth to the CNE tournament.  

OPENING ACT

  • Since 2007, Suffolk sports a 4-13 opening day record. 
  • Suffolk looks for its first match one win since blanking St. Joseph (Conn.), 9-0, Sept. 11, 2021.
  • The blue-and-gold begins the year on the road for the fifth straight season. 
  • Suffolk is 1-10 when pulling the curtain back on the season away from home since 2007. 
  • The Rams will battle UMass Boston in the first match of the year for the first time according to the game-by-game record book, which dates back to 2007. 
  • Three season debuts since 2007 have been decided via shutout fashion. Suffolk is 1-2 in those instances. 

BEACONS BREAKDOWN
A year ago, UMass Boston captured its third straight Little East Conference (LEC) regular-season and post-season championship with a 14-3 overall record and perfect 9-0 league ledger.  

Zainab Patel, 2024 LEC Singles Player of the Year and All-LEC selection, is back on the top of the flight for the Beacons after a 10-1 record in a year ago. She was also apart of the LEC's Double Team of the Year, however her partner Lydia Chen graduated.  

Kayla Clarke Calderone, Shreya Saravana Rakshana, Kate Vivia Romero and Sandra Watson have returned for UMB as well, while head coach Malcolm Neville has added three newcomers to the fold for 2025-26.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and UMass Boston will renew a rivalry Tuesday, meeting for the first time since Oct. 17, 2019. 
  • Since 1995, the Rams are 11-4 versus the Beacons. 
  • Suffolk fell to UMB, 8-1, in the last meeting, Oct. 17, 2019. 
  • The Rams aim to defeat the Beacons for the first time since Oct. 11, 2012, an 8-1 decision. 
  • On the road, Suffolk sports a 4-4 mark versus UMB. 
  • Suffolk last tangled at UMB in the foes last meeting, Oct. 17, 2019, however, the Rams last win over the Beacons as the away team came Oct. 14, 2009 via a 5-4 decision.
  • The blue-and-gold will meet UMass Boston under Zach Goodstein's guidance for the first time.
