Women’s Track & Field Competes at UMS Open II

GORHAM, Maine – The Rams saw 10 personal records as Suffolk women's indoor track & field got its second semester underway at the USM Open II Saturday at the Costello Field House.

RAMS RUNNERS

  • JJ Conteh's runner-up finish in the 55 behind a 7.57 anchored the seven Rams in the event, which included Hilma Ortega (7.68), who placed fifth, as well as Bailey Stoddard-Baughman (7.96), Rhoni Johnson (7.99), Kelsie Dessaps (8.17), Olivia Coyne (8.32) and Aida Bellal (8.43).
  • Conteh was the two Suffolk sprinter in the 200 as well as she made a half lap around the track in 27.76, good for fifth. Ortega (28.94), Kaylie Groom (28.96) and Dessaps (29.12) were featured in the 27-runner field as well. 
  • Groom logged a 1:03.97 in the 400, good for second.

HURDLER HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the 55 hurdles, Stoddard-Baughman (9.22), Ortega (9.37) and Averie Denelle (10.11) took fourth, sixth and ninth, respectively. 

JUMPERS JIST

  • Devyn Battistoni won the pole vault as she cleared 3.45 meters. Coyne's 2.20-meter effort, meanwhile, was good for fourth.
  • Denelle cleared 1.47 meters to take second in the high jump.
  • In the long jump, Dessaps registered a 4.83-meter leap to take sixth. Dootchina Dorielan (4.42m) and Helfgott-Waters (4.27m) competed in the 16-jumper field.
  • Helfgott-Waters' 9.15-meter effort put the junior in seventh in the triple jump.

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • The trio of Hannah Laderoute (9.50m), Emily Millan (7.51m) and Abby MacMillan (6.29) heaved the shot put.
  • The quartet of Emma Withers (11.42m), Laderoute (11.20m), Millan (8.70m) and MacMillan (6.10m) participated in the weight throw.

RAMS RECORDS

  • Three personal-records were recorded in the 55 as Conteh (7.57), Ortega (7.68) and Stoddard-Baughman (7.95) achieved career-bests in the sprint.
  • Stoddard-Baughman notched a PR in the 55 hurdles of 9.22.
  • MacMillan produced a personal-best in the shot put (6.29).
  • A trio of Rams tallied a career-high in the weight throw in Withers (11.42m), Laderoute (11.20m) and Millian (8.70m).

YOU'RE NEW HERE

  • Johnson made her collegiate debut and competed across two events (55) and 
  • Dessaps and Coyne ran the 55 for the first time in her collegiate career.
