Volleyball Hosts GNAC Tri-Match
The Suffolk University Volleyball team (8-12 overall, 2-3 GNAC) hosted their first of three Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tri-Matches this month hosting the Johnson & Wales Wildcats (15-8 overall, 7-0 GNAC) and the St. Joseph's College Monks (13-8 overall, 4-2 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales were winners of both their matches topping both the Monks and Rams in 3-0 victories.
In the opener the Rams got another strong effort by freshman Maggie Hillman (North Andover, Mass.) who led the Rams in both kills (6) and digs (20) in the three match set. The Wildcats however would win in three sets; 25-16, 25-21 and 25-21.
In the final game of the day the Monks topped the Rams 3-1. Suffolk came out early winning the first set by a score of 25-22. After dropping the second set 25-16 both teams would square off in the third match needing an extra point for victory as the Monks sealed it with a 26-24 win. The fatigued Rams could not do much after that dropping the fourth set 25-17.
Junior Melissa Griffin (Byfield, Mass.) was the Rams' top performer in the second game finishing with a team-high 10 kills as she finished the day with 13 kills and 21 digs combined. Hillman was again solid with 21 digs.
Senior Kelly Loder (Billerica, Mass.) had seven kills and two solo blocks on the day and accounted for four of the Rams' eleven blocks in both matches.
Freshman Jacqueline Dugas (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had a combined 27 digs, along with seven kills in both matches, while senior Julie Sullivan (Haverhill, Mass.) had 26 setting assists.
The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Lasell College in GNAC action at the Regan Gymnasium at 7:00pm.
