Framingham State Wins Battle of the Rams, 3-0

The Suffolk Rams (10-16 overall, 3-5 GNAC) suffered a tough 0-3 loss Thursday evening against Framingham State University.

The Rams offense was led by Maggie Hillman (North Andover, MA) and Melissa Griffin (Byfield, MA) who had 7 and 5 kills on the night. Kelly Loder (Billerica, MA) and Hailey Atkinson (Branford, CT) each served up 2 aces through the match. Julie Sullivan (Haverhill, MA) put up 15 assists on the night as well.

The Rams lost the first set 18-25 with Hillman supplying 3 kills offensively and Griffin and Jacqueline Dugas (Saratoga Springs, NY) digging out 6 and 4 balls in the set. Additionally, Dugas had 3 of her total 5 solo blocks during this set.

In the second set the Rams came back with fighting action. Though they ended up losing a close 22-25, it was the defense that really took over.  Hillman led the set with 8 digs, along with Griffin and Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, CT) who each had 3 digs. Loder also supplied 2 solos blocks in this set (as in the first) out of her total of 5 for the night.

Suffolk's offense kicked into action in the third set as Hillman and Griffin supplied 3 kills a piece with Sullivan's 7 assists. The same followed defensively. Hillman and Griffin each dug out 9 balls in the set, while Atkinson (5), Sullivan (4), and Loder (3) aided with digs as well. Though they lost the set 21-25, the Rams showed great promise defensively.

The defense for the night was led by Hillman and Griffin who supplied 20 and 18 digs for the match. Loder and Dugas each had 5 solo blocks on the night as mentioned before.

The Rams will host a Tri-Tournament and play GNAC opponents Mount Ida College and Pine Manor College starting at 10:00 on Saturday morning.
