The Suffolk University Women's Volleyball team opened the 2012 season participating in the Gordon College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Rams topped Mitchell College, 3-2 before falling to host Gordon College, 3-2 and were swept in their nightcap by Framingham State University, 3-0.
Junior Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, Connecticut) earned All-Tournament honors for the Rams as she racked up a total of 74 digs in the three matches to lead Suffolk.
Kennedy recorded 32 digs in the Rams win over Mitchell College, while also collecting two service aces in the five-set match. Junior Jessica Bard (Harleysville, Pa.) led the Rams with six kills in the match along with a solo block, while senior Jennifer Duston (Nashua, N.H.) recorded three service aces in the victory. Bard led all Rams in blocking on Saturday as she combined for eight stuffs.
Other notable performances from the weekend were junior Hailey Atkinson (Branford, Conn.) who had a team-high with 14 kills and also 31 digs. Freshman Kristin Hartnett (Wakefield, R.I.) shared a team-high along with Duston in service aces with five, while sophomore Brianna Souza (Norfolk, Mass.) led the team in setting assists with 27.
Sophomore Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) collected 13 kills on the day, 11 of which came against Gordon College, while senior Hannah Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) also had 10 in the three games combined.
The Rams will be back in action on Wednesday evening as they host their home opener for the 2012 regular season at the Regan Gymnasium when they take on Wentworth at 7:00pm.
