Two Suffolk University Volleyball players earned recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the week of September 16. Junior Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) was tabbed GNAC Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks, while freshman Savannah Carpenter (Weston, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Week honors. The Rams finished with a 3-1 record over the past seven days including a sweep of a non-conference tri-match hosted by Curry College on Saturday afternoon. The three wins on the week improve Suffolk's overall record to 6-4 on the season as they have won six of their past seven contests.
Brillaud finished another big week off with a career-high 22 kills in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Curry College. She averaged 16.5 kills per match in a four-game span and 17 points per match for the Rams. She currently leads all players in the GNAC in total kills (139), points per set (4.2) and kills per set with a 3.86 average. Brillaud was tabbed GNAC Player of the Week last week as well after leading the Rams to a tournament victory at Newbury College's David J. Hildebrandt Memorial Invitational.
Carpenter was tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week as she posted 37 kills over the four games, including a season-high 14 in Suffolk's 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon over Salem State University. Carpenter was named to the All-Tournament team earlier this year in Suffolk's season opening tournament at Emerson College. Earlier in the week Carpenter had a monster night in Suffolk's 3-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy as posted 15 kills offensively and 15 digs on the defensive side of the ball to help pace the Rams. Carpenter is currently seventh overall in the GNAC averaging 2.8 points per game.
Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Wentworth College for a 7:00pm non-conference matchup with the Leopards. They will then open up their 2013 GNAC schedule with a tri-match hosted by St. Joseph's College (ME) and also take on Simmons College.
