BEVERLY, Mass. – Sofia Moukaddem of the Suffolk women's cross country garnered Conference of New England (CNE) Runner of the Week honors following her effort at the season-opening Suffolk Short Course Classic, the league office announced Monday.
Moukaddem, a junior from Weston, Massachusetts, raced to a 3k time of 11:19.30. That time was not only good for 13th in the field of 190, but was the best showing by a NCAA Division III runner at the event. Her personal-best performance in the event also marks the best-ever showing by a Ram at the Suffolk Short Course Classic. She is the second-ever student-athlete in blue-and-gold to run a sub-12:00.0 3k at the annual event behind Amy Pattelena, who was the first in 2023.
Behind Moukaddem's standout showing, Suffolk finished fourth in the 17-team field. The Rams' 157 points were good for the best against their DIII counterparts behind the podium that featured all Division I programs, Northeastern (30), New Hampshire (57) and Holy Cross (74).
The weekly award marks a first for Moukaddem in her Suffolk career. She is the first Ram to scoop up the conference's runner of the week accolade since Amalia Dorion earned the distinction Sept. 23, 2024.
Moukaddem and the Rams are idle until Saturday, Sept. 20 when they compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
