As I reflect on my four years at Suffolk University, I can easily say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I have no regrets.
That cliché, is often easier said then done, to live life with no regrets, but for me, the answer is simple. It was all worth it. The 6 a.m. practices, the tough loses, the long bus rides, the blood, sweat and tears put into this great game, I have loved every second of it.
As I look back now, almost two weeks removed from playing in my final collegiate game, I don’t think I could have ever imagined the impact playing soccer at Suffolk would have on me as a woman and an athlete.
Even more important to me, the friendships and bonds I have made with my teammates is a sisterhood that will live on long after I graduate. With that being said, I can say without a doubt, that the current women’s soccer team at Suffolk is my second family. I know if I ever needed anything I could rely on my teammates whether it was at soccer, or outside of soccer. My teammates have been my best friends over the years and I know they will continue to be as the years go on and we all move onto the next chapter of our lives.
I realize as I move on from soccer and open up the next chapter in my life, that it is going to be a tough transition. I will take what I have learned from being a student athlete to help me in my future. I’ve learned many valuable things such as being a leader, and more importantly a teammate. I have learned to never give up and to give it everything you got because in the blink of an eye it will all be over. In order to succeed you must push through even in the hardest times. If you want to be successful you need to work hard and put the time in. It is not just about being a good player and performing well on the field, it is about putting the team first and setting an example for the younger players.
To the teammates that still have seasons ahead of them, appreciate every minute. Time flies and before you know it you will be lacing up your cleats for the last time. Appreciate every minute, even when coach tells you to run. You are going to go through some tough loses and will just want to give up at some points like we all know, but just remember why you are playing this sport and who you are playing for.
Lastly, thank you to my family for being my number one fans. I wouldn’t be the person or soccer player I am today without the support and help of you guys. Thank you for coming to every single game of my collegiate career, and for being there for me with everything in life. I’ll miss playing, but I will miss you guys cheering me on the most. As for now, it is time to move on and start the next chapter of my life. I will forever be a Ram and can’t wait to come back and watch Suffolk women’s soccer grow even more.
