As a transfer student, I didn’t put much thought into trying to join the women’s soccer team. I will always be grateful for the player who convinced me to get in contact with the coach and try out for the team during the upcoming season. I was immediately confident that I made a good choice when I met the girls on the team.
After all the 6 a.m. practices and four hour game trips, I know that there is a bond between each and every one of us that is special and strong. Through all of our personal differences that naturally come about when you stick 20 girls in the same room for an extended period of time, we always found a way to step onto the field together, for each other.
I’ll never forget how nervous I was to be new to the team as a junior, thinking I would be an outcast of sorts and not entirely accepted by the returners, and how quickly those nerves went away after meeting my new teammates. I know that joining this team was the best thing that could have happened to me, and while I definitely won’t miss waking up at 6 a.m. for them, I’ll wholeheartedly miss playing for them.
To my girls, I love you all more than I ever could have expected, and I am so grateful to have met each and every one of you.
