EAST BOSTON – Suffolk baseball fell behind early and never found its way out of the hole to drop a 7-1 Conference of New England (CNE) decision to Nichols in game two of a doubleheader Sunday after at East Boston Memorial Park.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Nichols 7
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-14, 1-4 CNE) | Nichols (11-10, 3-4 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
A two-run inside the park bomb by Karl Miller in the top of the first helped Nichols jump out to a 2-0 lead.
A sac fly by Adam Pivacek in the top of the third pushed the gap to 3-0 in the Bison's favor.
Suffolk made up one run in the bottom of the third. Colin Flynn wore a pitch and put on his running shoes when Chris Cimino slugged a stand-up double to left field to make it a 3-1 game.
The Bison figured out Rams' reliever Jack Raimo early to extended the edge to five, 6-1, behind a three-run top of the sixth.
The score stood still until the ninth when Nichols added one more to lengthen its lead to six, 7-1.
The Rams were unable to capitalize on a lead-off single to center by Sam Armbruster in the bottom of the ninth to suffer the setback.
