WNE Tops Baseball in CNE First Round

BEVERLY, Mass. – The fifth-seeded Suffolk baseball team stumbled in the first round of the 2025 Conference of New England Tournament to fourth seed Western New England, 11-1, Wednesday afternoon at North Field on the campus of Endicott College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk fell behind early as the Golden Bears scored runs in the first three innings to put the Rams in a 5-0 hole. 

The Rams broke onto the board in the top of the fourth. Max Iorio wore a pitch before Chris Cimino singled to center to put two ducks in the pond. With one out, Sam Armbruter's base hit to center scored Iorio to give Suffolk its first run of the day. 

A four-spot by WNE in the sixth extended the margin to 9-1.  

The Golden Bears added two more in the bottom of the eighth to lengthen their lead to 10.  

Suffolk was unable to figure out Jared Kuryan the rest of the way to take the setback.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Nick Arnett took the loss as he gave up five runs, four earned, on four hits and four walks with one strikeout through 3.0 innings. 
  • Anthony Ferreira compiled a four-run, six-hit, three-walk effort over 4.0 innings. 
  • Colin McNeal allowed two runs on two hits and four walks in 1.0 inning. 
  • Kuryan put together a one-run, four-hit, five-strike, complete-game win.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Max Martin went 2-for-4. 
  • Cimino chipped in one hit. 
  • Armbruster added one hit, one RBI and one walk. 
  • Iorio scored one run.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • The Rams are in the middle of their fifth trip and fifth straight appearance in the CNE Tournament. 
  • Suffolk is competing as the fifth seed in the CNE Tournament for the first time. 
  • Suffolk is now 4-9 in the CNE postseason. 
  • In neutral site games, Suffolk sports a 1-2 record in the CNE postseason. 
  • Suffolk moved to 23-25 all-time against WNE. 
  • Suffolk and WNE met in the CNE postseason for the fourth time. 
  • The Rams are now 0-4 in the CNE Tournament against WNE.
