WORCESTER, Mass. – Suffolk women's basketball dropped a matinee to Clark, 66-53, Tuesday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 53 | Clark 66
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-3) | Clark (8-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Out of a 4-all tie, six straight points allowed the Cougars charge in front, 10-4. Allison Bono answered for the blue-and-gold as she scored four quick of her own cut the gap back to a bucket at the 1:22 mark. Kiley Drezek converted a layup with 41 seconds left in the first frame for the host to send Suffolk into the second stanza down, 12-8.
- The Rams attempted to rally out of the gate, but Clark was the team that capitalized and led by eight, 24-16, with 3:30 left before halftime. That's when the blue-and-gold made its move as four different players combined for nine points to trim the margin back to two, 27-25, as the teams headed to the locker rooms. Ariana Ingram's triple ignited the run that saw hoops from Bomo, Akiyah Brown and Ava Thurman.
- Sluggish scoring plagued Suffolk in the third as the Cougars build a 15-point, 47-32, with 2:33 remaining on the clock in the third. Treys from Jordan Moreau and Olivia Verdile erased the draught and pulled the blue-and-gold back within 10, 50-40, with 30 minutes in the books.
- Unfortunately, Suffolk was unable to pick up where it left off and over 2:30 minutes of the final quarter went by scoreless before Catherine Antwi knocked down a 3-pointer for the host, which extended the distance to 13. Momentum never shifted back to the Rams as back-and-forth action closed out the contest in the Cougars' favor.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Suffolk's offense was well-balanced with eight different scorers, however, none breached the double figure plateau.
- Moreau and Bono supplied nine points apiece. The former added three dimes, three boards, two steals and one block to her stat line, while the latter pitched in seven caroms, four helpers, one swat and one takeaway.
- Ingram had an all-around effort of eight points on a 2-for-3 conversion rate from downtown to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.
- Thurman tallied eight points, four boards, and two assists.
- Verdile (7 pts, 3 boards) and Tatiana Tune (6 pts, 7 boards) were two-way contributors as well.
- Clark won the battle on the boards, 50-45.
