No. 15 Plattsburgh State Trumps Women’s Ice Hockey, 6-1

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Suffolk women's ice hockey dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 15 Plattsburgh State the first outing of a two-game series Friday at Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brooke Terry forced a turnover in the defensive zone and fed a pass into the slot to Zoe Puc, who lifted the puck over the right pad of Katelyn Michals to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead at the 12:49 mark of the opening period.
  • Suffolk responded exactly six minutes later as Bella Schmidt tipped home a slapshot from Laurel PotterKatie Newkirk won the faceoff and kept the puck alive to set up the equalizer.
  • Puc netted her second goal of the period on the power play with just over seven minutes remaining, sending the Cardinals into the first intermission with a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Cardinals extended their lead early in the second period when Kayson St. Ruegge capitalized on a loose puck following a faceoff, skating the length of the ice to score shorthanded and make it 3-1.
  • Plattsburgh put the game out of reach in the final stanza, adding three more goals from St. Ruegge, Terry, and Emily Kasprzak, respectively, to seal a 6-1 victory.
