Women’s Lacrosse Outpaced by UNE, 21-11

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's lacrosse dropped a 21-11 decision to the University of New England on Tuesday afternoon at Blue Bolt Field in Conference of New England (CNE) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UNE raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first 4:56 before Zoe Peckham got Suffolk on the board, finishing a feed from Bridget O'Leary to make it 3-1 at the 8:46 mark of the opening quarter. The Nor'easters added two more to stretch the margin to 5-1 with 4:42 to play, but O'Leary sparked a quick response, scoring after a clear and then winning the ensuing draw control before finding Peckham just 24 seconds later to cut it to 5-3. The teams traded goals in the final minute, with O'Leary converting a man-up free position to send Suffolk into the second down 6-4.
  • The Nor'easters started the second quarter as they did the first, opening the quarter with three straight goals to build a 9-4 advantage with 10:54 left in the half. Julia Dickinson helped shift momentum back, and Peckham buried her third connection from O'Leary to make it 9-6 at the 5:37 mark. The duo connected once more for Peckham's fourth, but UNE answered with back-to-back tallies to push the lead to 11-7 with just over two minutes remaining. Lauren Woods then finished in tight off a feed from Carley Ehwa with nine seconds left to pull Suffolk within three, 11-8, but UNE responded immediately, winning the draw, and converting with one second on the clock to take a 12-8 lead into halftime.
  • Suffolk was outscored 9-3 in the second half, with goals from Ehwa, Peckham, and Stella MacLelland, as the Rams fell 21-11.

GOALIE LOG

  • Charlotte Guziejka stopped seven shots in the contest.
  • Olivia Ferraro made five saves before Katie Roland came on in relief and added two stops. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Peckham paced the Rams with five goals and added one ground ball.
  • O'Leary finished with two goals five assists and posted team highs in draw controls (4) and caused turnovers (2).
  • Dickinson and Ewha each recorded one goal and one assist.
  • MacLelland and Woods chipped in one goal apiece.
  • Jessie Le added one helper. 

NOTEWORTHY 

  • Suffolk played at UNE for the first time in program history. 
  • Peckham scored a career-high five goals.
  • O'Leary dished out a collegiate best five assists.
