Women's Outdoor Track & Field Finishes Third at CCC Championships

WENHAM, Mass. - Suffolk women's outdoor track & field finished third at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships Saturday at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Rams saw nine podium finishes and three individual conference champions to finish with 113 team points, 3.5 points behind runner-up Endicott and 13.5 away from champion Gordon.

Sprinter Amanda Walden left the North Shore as the most decorated Suffolk student-athlete as the sophomore won the 100 and 200. She checked a lot of boxes in her 100 win as her time of 12.76 not only topped the 23-runner field, but marked the sophomore's personal best and earned her place at regionals. Walden also notched a personal record in the 200 of 26.43, which won the 32-runner event. She is the first Ram to capture the conference titles in each event in program history.    

Lauren Wood (fourth) joined Walden in the 100, while Alyssa Rodriguez (28.33) and Emily Concepcion (31.74) raced the 200 as well.  

Rodriguez (ninth) and Concepcion (11th) joined Jocelyn Triscik in the 400 as well. Triscik placed fifth for the second time in as many seasons behind a time of 1:04.98. 

Catherine Madden put together a podium finish in the 100 hurdles. The freshman's personal-best of 16.91 pushed her into second place. With that outcome, she became the first Suffolk hurdler to earn a place on the league's podium. Klaudia Rushi (17.91), Isabelle Slocum (17.92) and Julia Hunt (18.16) sprinted the event as well with Slocum registering a PR.   

Katelynn Brunt notched a personal record in the 800 of 2:34.19. That performance marks a Rams record at the league meet put the freshman in fifth place in the 25-runner field, the highest finish by a Suffolk student-athlete in two laps around the track at CCCs.  

Three personal records fell in the 1500. Brunt marked her second PR of the day with a. 5:16.03, good for fourth in the 25-runner field. Skyler Spanbauer crossed the line 0.42 seconds after Brunt to claim fifth. Christina Baggitt (5:49.11) and Daisey Jones (6:02.07) each produced personal bests in the event as well.  

Spanbauer secured a Rams CCC record in the 5000 of 19:27.84 to take fourth in the 15-runner field that featured Sarah Roberts (21:06.83) as well.  

Therese McKeagney rounded out the individual Rams runners in the 3000 Steeplechase. She tallied a time of 14:30.06 in her first time competing the event. 

Both of Suffolk's relay teams finished fourth in their respective categories. Rodriguez, Concepcion, Wood and Walden teamed up for a program-record 4x100 time of 52.41. Triscik stepped in for Wood with the remaining threesome in the 4x400. That group combined for a program-best 4:21.57. 

Caitlyn Filloramo walked away from Wenham, Massachusetts, with the most prowess of Suffolk's fielders. The freshman won the hammer throw behind a 46.07-meter heave. Filloramo is the first Ram to capture the individual championship in program history. Allison Rodrigues joined Filloramo on the podium with a second-place showing of 38.53.  

Both Filloramo and Rodrigues found places on the podium in the shot put as well. Filloramo tossed a personal-record of 10.93 to claim second with Rodrigues right behind her in third thanks to a 10.40-meter throw. 

The pair of podium finishes in the hammer throw and shot put are the most by Suffolk at the conference championships. 

Filloramo became the first Ram to earn a place on the podium at CCCs in the discus. She notched a personal and program record of 32.00 meters to capture third. Rodrigues had a top-10 showing as well behind a 27.92-meter toss.  

Rodrigues headlined the Suffolk javelin performers with a fourth-place performance of 29.25-meters. Olivia Nicholson (24.76) and Payton Dockus (12.80) participated in the javelin as well.  

Gracie O'Connell and Lydia Comprosky competed in all four field events.  

Suffolk saw two jumpers place second. Julia Hunt leaped a personal record in the long jump of 4.85 to lock up second, the best finish by a Ram at CCCs. Nicole DiBenedetto took second, the best finish by a Suffolk student-athlete in the event at the league championships, in the high jump as she tied her own Rams CCC record of 4.85. Both Hunt and DiBenedetto competed in the triple jump as well.  

Each of the medalist at Saturday's championship were named to the all-conference teams with the gold medalist earning first-team all-conference honors, silver medalist securing spots on the second-team and bronze medalist making up the third team.  

Additionally, the CCC women's head coaches will vote on major postseason awards next week. Following the voting period, the conference will recognize a Track Athlete of the Year, Track Rookie of the Year, Field Performer of the Year, Field Rookie of the Year and a CCC Scholar-Athlete. Coaches will also be voting on winners for Coach of the Year and Team Sportsmanship. 

The Rams who qualified for regionals will take their talents to Lee Track in Williamstown, Massachusetts next week, May 6-7, for the Division III East Regional Championships.
