Outdoor Track & Field Chases CNE Championship this Weekend

BOSTON – Suffolk men's and women's outdoor track & field is set to compete for the Conference of New England Championship this weekend. Action starts Friday, April 25 and will wrap up Saturday, April 26 with all action set to take place at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex in Wenham, Massachusetts.

RAMS RADER [ MEN ] 

  • Tim Barry will lead the way as he attempts to bring home wins in both the 800 and 1500. 
  • Hayden Green will also look to score points in the 1500 and 5k. 
  • Thomas Novy will join Green in the 5k and is aiming for the win. Jaden WenceslaoSean Jacobsen and Jacob Dubin will run the 5,000 as well. 
  • Nathan Fernandes will attempt to a top three finish in both the 200 and 400. 
  • Joshua Durand should also score points in the 400. 
  • Elijah Brown should score in the hammer. 
  • Michael Makiej is the favorite in the high jump. 
  • Joshua Catino and Nico Carrillo will be counted on to secured needed points in the pole vault. 
  • Tighe Hosman can become the first Suffolk hurdler to score in the 400 at a conference championship. 
  • Sebastian Vickers-Richard is making his steeple chase debut. 

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS [ WOMEN ]

  • The women's team will be in a tight three-team battle for the win with Hartford and Endicott. 
  • Big points are expected from the pole vault trio of Devyn BattistoniKara Sickle and Sasha Helfgott-Waters. Battistoni will look to defend her individual title from 2024.
  • Amanda Walden and Emily Concepcion are the top ranked athletes in the 400. 
  • Amalia Dorion will look to win both the 1500 and 5k. In the 1500, four of the top 6 times in the league are held by Suffolk runners in addition to Dorion, Sydney FoggAmy Pattelena and Sofia Moukaddem will provide crucial points. 
  • Averie Denelle has a great opportunity to win her first individual high jump title. 
  • Dootchina Dorielan will be competing in her first conference championship and the squad will count on her to score in the long jump.
  • Emma Withers and Sharaden Caldwell should both score in the hammer. 
  • The women's 4x400 relay made up of Pattelena, Walden, Concepcion and Kaylie Groom should come the meet with a win. 

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk began its CNE (formerly CCC) Championship chase in 2021. 
  • The men's team garnered the inaugural CNE Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship in 2022, after winning the CNE Invite a year prior in 2021. 
  • The women's squad has never hoisted the CCC trophy, but the blue-and-gold has improved on its team finish every year it has competed.
