Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Takes Third at CNE Championships

WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field secured third at the 2025 Conference of New England (CNE) Championships over the weekend at the Brigham Athletic Center on the campus of Gordon College. 

The Rams captured 122 points for third in the nine-team field. Gordon captured the 2025 CNE crown with 176 points and Hartford edged out Suffolk for second with 153 points. 

CNE CHAMPS
Suffolk claimed gold medals in two events:  

  • Pole Vault – Devyn Battistoni
  • 4x400 Relay – Amanda Walden, Kaylie Groom, Amy Pattelena, Emily Concepcion

ALL-CNE

Suffolk student-athletes who placed first (gold medalist), second (silver medalist) or third (bronze medalist) in an event earned all-conference first-team, second-team and third-team honors.

  • 2 All-CNE First-Team – Battistoni (Pole Vault), 4x400 (Walden, Kaylie Groom, Pattelena, Concepcion)
  • 2 All-CNE Second-Team – Kara Sickle (Pole Vault), Amalia Dorion (5000)
  • 7 All-CNE Third-Team – Sasha Helfgott-Waters (Pole Vault), Olivia Nicholson (javelin), 4x100 (JJ Conteh, Hilma Ortega, Emily Concepcion, Amanda Walden, Amalia Dorion (1500), Amanda Walden (200, 400), Sydney Fogg (800)

RAMS RECORDS

  • It is the second straight season that Suffolk took the first three spots in the pole vault.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Dorion was the runner-up in the 5k as she crossed the tape in 17:44.52. Moukaddem sealed up the sixth slot with an 18:24.03. Bailey Ford (20:15.60) and Gina Cappello (20:34.08) ran the 5000 as well. 
  • Dorion sealed a spot in the 1500 podium with a 4:42.10. Rams fell in spots four through six as well with Amy Pattelena (4:53.71), Sydney Fogg (4:57.13) and Sofia Moukaddem (4:59.40). 
  • Walden's 200 time of 26.01 was good for third in the field of 26. 
  • Walden made one lap around the track in 1:00.93, good for third in the 400. Concecpion (1:01.64) and Kaylie Groom (1:02.88) took fifth and seventh, respectively, in the field of 16. 
  • Aida Bella put together a 14.39 time in the 100 to take 21st. 
  • Fogg finished third in the 800 with a 2:21.29. Pattelena was right on her heels in fourth with a 2:21.73. Shannon Groom (2:31.45) and Allison Martin (2:40.44) made two laps around the track. 

RAMS RELAYS

  • The foursome of JJ ContehHilma OrtegaEmily Concepcion and Amanda Walden combined for a third-place performance in the 4x100 with a time of 52.06.
  • The quartet of Walden, Kaylie Groom, Pattelena and Concepcion joined forces to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:07.53.  

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HURDLERS

  • Catherine Madden finished sixth in the 100 hurdles with a 16.47 showing. Averie Denelle compiled a time of 18.32 in the event, good for 12th. 
  • Jaenelle Bryant claimed 13th in the 400 hurdles behind a time of 1:23.52.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Suffolk claimed the first three spots in the pole vault. Battistoni repeated as the individual champ as she cleared 3.25. Sickle sealed second with a 2.95 and Helfgott-Waters' 2.80 was good for third in the field of eight. 
  • Dootchina Dorielan (4.74), Helfgott-Waters (4.25) and Sickle (4.18) competed in the long jump.
  • Averie Dennelle (1.51) was just one spot shy of the podium in the high jump as she captured fourth. Catherine Brown was three spots behind Denelle in seventh as she cleared 1.46 meters.
  • Helfgott-Waters placed 16th in the triple jump with a 9.04-meter effort.   

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Nicholson notched a third-place performance in the javelin as she heaved in 32.95 meters. Emma Withers (19.52) was featured in the field of 21 as well.
  • Withers finished inside the top-10 in the hammer throw behind a 36.47-meter toss. Gracie O'Connell (33.58), Sharaden Caldwell (32.66) and Bailee Mallett (28.19) heaved the hammer as well. 
  • Caldwell was just off the podium in the discus with a 30.47-meter throw. Divinety Johnson (23.50), Gracie O'Connell (23.25), Mallett (22.70) and Lydia Comprosky (22.35) competed in the event as well. 
  • Johnson placed 15th in the shot put with a 8.88-meter showing.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk swept the pole vault podium for the second straight season.
  • Sickle (pole vault) and Helfgott-Waters collected All-CNE for the first-time in their collegiate careers.
  • Suffolk had 11 all-conference honorees. It is the third straight season and fourth time that the Rams had double digit all-league awards.  

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams that qualified for regionals are set to compete at New Englands next weekend, May 2-3, at the United State Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
