BOSTON – The sixth installment of the Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Fame, the Class of 2016, is comprised of five record setting Rams and the impeccable 2007 Women’s Tennis Team.
The Class of 2016 will be honored in an appreciation dinner Friday, October 14 at Suffolk University’s Sargent Hall Atrium and Function Room at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to the event can be purchased here.
“Being inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame is the highest honor we can bestow on an individual or team,” said Director of Athletics Cary McConnel. “All of these individuals and the 2007 women’s tennis team made a lasting impact on Suffolk Athletics. We cannot wait to welcome them back to campus this fall and celebrate their tremendous accomplishments.”
The Suffolk Athletics Hall of Fame honors and perpetuates the memory of athletes, friends, coaches and supporters, who performed and contributed at the highest level of intercollegiate athletic competition while at Suffolk University. Selection is based primarily on athletic accomplishments, integrity, sportsmanship and character. Individuals other than athletes may be named to the Hall of Fame in recognition of their services and dedication to Suffolk University’s athletic program. The inductees have been selected by a vote of a selection committee of Suffolk Athletics affiliates, including alumni and athletics’ administrators.
The Class of 2016 of the Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Fame includes four men, one woman and one team representing five different sports programs.
Among the honorees are men’s basketball standouts John “Jay” Crowley and Dan Florian. Playing in different decades, both of these student-athletes brought the Rams’ men’s basketball program to new heights with a knack for scoring as they each etched their name in Suffolk’s 1,000-Point Club.
Larry Chabre, who was a crucial ingredient to the 1984 Baseball Team, a member of the 2009 Suffolk Athletics Hall of Fame, and Sean O’Driscoll, a main contributor to the 1990-91 Hockey team, a member of the inaugural Suffolk Athletics Hall of Fame Class (2007), each received the call for their individual standout careers as Rams.
Erin Pagel rounds out the individual inductees as she helped redefine Suffolk’s softball program as a GNAC powerhouse during her time in blue-and-gold.
The 2007 Women’s Tennis Squad redefined perfection for Suffolk as the Rams had a picture-perfect undefeated season en route to the program’s lone GNAC Crown and NCAA Appearance.
The Suffolk Athletics Hall of Fame, which held its first induction ceremony in 2007, currently has 44 members, including 31 student-athletes, four head coaches, six teams and three special honorees.
