Boston, Mass. -- The Suffolk University Women’s Soccer team and Cross-Country teams swept the weekly Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Honors for the week of September 20 as four Rams earned accolades by the league.
Freshman Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Penn.) was named GNAC Player of the Week for Women’s Soccer. On the week Balestrier scored four goals and added an assist as Suffolk swept conference matches against Simmons College and Emmanuel College. Balestrier netted her first career hat trick in a 6-2 Suffolk win over Emmanuel College on Saturday. Balestrier also had an assist as she tallied seven points on the day. Balestrier also netted a goal in a Rams' 5-2 victory on Wednesday over Simmons College.
Freshman Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) earned GNAC Rookie of the Week honors for Women’s Soccer. Miranda led the Rams with two goals in Wednesday's victory 5-2 victory over Simmons and had two goals and an assist in Saturday's win over Emmanuel College as well.
The Rams had a pair of Rookie of the Week selections in Cross-Country as well for their strong showing at the Eagles Invitational this past Friday hosted by Daniel Webster College. On the men’s side, freshman Erik Paine (Dartmouth, Mass.) was the Rams’ top finisher placing second in the 5.62-mile race with a time of 35:44. The Men’s Cross-Country team placed second overall in the meet. For the women freshman Bridget Evangelista (Newburyport, Mass.) was the Rams’ best runner placing eighth at the Eagles Invitational finishing the 3.1 mile race in a time of 24:28 as the Rams placed third as a team in the meet.
