Basketball Earns Two GNAC Weekly Awards

Two Suffolk University Basketball players earned recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to start the 2010-11 season. Sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) of Men’s Basketball and freshman Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) of the Women’s Basketball team were each selected to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll.

Halpin averaged 20 points on the week as Suffolk opens the season with a 2-1 mark. Halpin had 21 points and 9 rebounds in a 76-69 win over Eastern Nazarene in the season opener. Halpin then had a 25 point effort to go along with 9 boards as Suffolk topped UMaine-Presque-Isle 83-70 in their other win. Halpin was selected to the New England College All-Tournament Team.

Ruys was the team's leading scorer in all three games to start the 2010-11 season averaging 16.3 points per game. Ruys had a season-high 18 points in Suffolk's 68-63 win over Clarkson on Saturday. Ruys took advantage of free throws as she was 21-for-22 from the line on the week.
